Love is in the air! And what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by watching movies about love? There are tons of romantic movies out there, which may make it that much harder to decide on the perfect one for you and your valentine to cuddle up to this Valentine’s Day, so I have compiled a movie list of some of my favorites to help you out.

1. The Notebook

This movie is the ultimate romantic movie of our time! You can’t go wrong with the love story of a poor young man and a rich young girl who are forced to separate, but whose love never wavers. Warning: be prepared to shed many tears if you haven’t already seen this movie.

2. Casablanca

If you and your valentine are more into classics, this is the movie for you. This movie is a romantic drama film set during World War II. The story is about the love of the protagonist, Rick, and his lost love, Ilsa, who is in town with her husband. But the story is also of the drama that surrounds their love at this time and place in history as Ilsa must escape the country with her husband.

3. Love Actually

For a more lighthearted and funny romantic film, check out this movie. Although it is based around the holiday season, it’s still absolutely acceptable to watch in February (and all year round)! It follows the love stories of a variety of people of different ages and at different levels of love. Ranging from a young boy in love with his classmate who he has never spoken to, to a newly married couple, to a woman who suspects her husband is cheating on her – this movie has it all.

4. Dirty Dancing

One of my favorites, this movie tells the story of a young girl who is starting to realize the world isn’t as black and white as she had believed it to be. She discovers a different life style when she goes away on vacation with her family and meets Johnny, a “bad boy” dancer played by Patrick Swayze. Not only is the story great, but the soundtrack to this film is also quite amazing.

5. 50 Shades of Grey

For those of you who want to actually go to the movies this Valentine’s Day, this new movie opens on February 14th. Based on the very popular novel by E.L. James, this much-anticipated film has created a lot of buzz.

Any of these five films are a great choice for this Valentine’s Day. If you choose any of the five movies above, it’ll surely make your day more romantic.

Sometimes it’s better to celebrate after Valentine’s Day because then there are less crowds and things like that big box of chocolate and cute teddy bear start to go on sale! Even if you already celebrated V-Day or just want to take a break from studying, here are a mix of new romance and comedy movies to go check out in the spirit of love!

A romantic comedy starring Zac Efron as one part of a trio of best friends who make a pact to maintain single status after one of them ends up heartbroken by a recent breakup.

2. Labor Day

3. About Last Night

A “modern reimagining” of the 1986 classic rom-com. This version follows the new love for two couples as they progress in their relationships, starring Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, and Michael Ealy.

4. Endless Love

Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde) is the pretty and privileged teen who falls for David Elliot (Alex Pettyfer), a troubled working-class boy, after high school graduation. Both the teen’s parents disapprove of their love, which only makes them want to pursue it more.

7 Reasons Why Cats Are The Best Valentines

Kelsey Bradshaw Blogger Biography

Who says you need a date this Valentine’s Day? The best date you could have is your cat!

No, seriously! Here’s why:

1. They’re Soft

Sure, boyfriends can grow beards. But those are scratchy. Cats are much softer and less apt to complain about hands on their face.

2. You Don’t Have To Share Your Chocolate

No need to grudgingly offer a spoon of Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked to the significant other. You can eat the whole carton by yourself (without another person there to judge you). And your cat won’t say one word.

3. They Won’t Get Jealous

They won’t mind if you want to go out with your friends on Valentine’s Day. In fact, they’ll probably enjoy the chance to catch up on their kitty beauty sleep.

4. There’s No Awkward Moment

At the end of the night, you won’t have to decide who pays the bill. Um, but don’t bring your cat to a restaurant… that could get really awkward, really fast.

5. You Can Stay In

In fact, you don’t have to go out at all. Cats are more than fine staying at home and watching movies all night.

6. No Dressing Up

They don’t care what you look like. Sure, every well-meaning boyfriend tells us we look better in “sweat pants, chillin’ with no makeup on” (or maybe that’s just Drake), but cats? They really don’t care.

7. Tons Of Cuddles

They are always there to cuddle at the end of the day and offer a supportive purr to all of your troubles.

So… what’s not to love? Cuddle up to your cat this Valentine’s Day. They are much better dates.

Dogs will suffice too! 😉

Think you have to be rich to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Wrong. Valentine’s Day, like other holidays, doesn’t have to break the bank. No matter what your budget is, there are always ways to celebrate. The big day is only one week away, so if you don’t have something planned, I have a few inexpensive suggestions for you.

1. Cook Dinner

You can surprise him/her with a homemade dinner, or make it a duo activity and pick out your meal together, go shopping to get the ingredients, and spend some kitchen time together while your favorite music plays in the background. Or, maybe one of you will focus on the meal while the other focuses on the dessert. Don’t forget to light the candles for the mood!

2. Have A Picnic

You can still have a picnic even if it’s cold outside. Just bundle up with some scarves and mittens, bring a cozy blanket, and find a spot in a park or beside a lake. Snack on fruit, cheese, crackers, and of course, chocolate. When it gets too cold for comfort, head back home and warm up inside with some cocoa!

3. Enjoy The Waves

Pick up some dessert and enjoy it by the beach as the waves crash in. Be sure to get there before sunset for a romantic view. End it with a stroll in the sand.

4. Rent A Hot Tub

In some towns, you can rent a private hot tub by the hour for pretty affordable prices. Grab your bathing suits and some towels and spend the night relaxing in hot water. Afterward, grab drinks or a late dinner.

5. Go Out

Downtown or near campus there are always places with fun events like dancing, karaoke, ice-skating or other holiday-themed events. Check your local paper or Craigslist – you’re bound to find something!

6. Try Something New

Get takeout at that new restaurant you always drive or walk by, rent a couple new movies, take it all back to your place and veg out. Afterward, venture out for dessert or create something on your own with what you already have in the cupboards. Anything new is bound to be exciting and make for a memorable night.

Just remember to enjoy the day and the rest will come naturally. Get creative and have fun! What are some Valentine’s Day date ideas you have? Leave them in the comments below!

Sylwia Baran Blogger Biography

Oh, you want me to pay $45 for flowers that cost only $20 yesterday? Yep, it sounds like it’s Valentine’s Day!

We all know that the prices of the typical v-day gifts such as roses and chocolates double or even triple the week of February 14th, and yet some of us still go out and pay these crazy prices. Well I’ll give you some do-it-yourself gifts ideas that are not only much more sensible in terms of price but are also a lot more thoughtful than any store-bought gift.

1. Chocolate Covered Strawberries

You could find about a dozen of these at most stores for about $30 (if not more), but honestly it’s just strawberries dipped in chocolate. You could make more than a dozen of these just from getting strawberries and a chocolate bar. Wash the strawberries first and break up the chocolate bar into a small pot filled with a little bit of hot water. The chocolate will melt nicely and become perfect for dipping the strawberries into. Place the chocolate-dipped strawberries on to a baking sheet and then place them into the fridge to harden. Get creative and use other fruits to do this with – such as apples or bananas. This delicious treat is fun and romantic to share with your Valentine.

2. Scrapbook

All you need is some scrap booking paper (or even just colored card stock), some ribbon to tie the pages together, and photos of you and your Valentine. This can be a very thoughtful and creative gift to add that sentimental and personal value needed on Valentine’s Day to put a smile on your partner’s face.

3. Heart-Shaped Food

Making a meal for someone can be so gratifying – especially if they are someone special. Make your Valentine some morning pancakes, afternoon sandwiches, or dessert cookies. Whatever you make – shape them into cute hearts! You could use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or free-hand. It’s a simple idea that’s great for your budget and one sweet gift!

Put your own special touch to any of these ideas and I assure you that your Valentine will be just as happy (if not more so) with a home-made gift made with love.

Enjoy and Happy Valentine’s Day!
