First we need to say goodbye to an Octopus.

This was supposed to be a post about the best “college-y” blogs out there, but this weeks tragedy takes precedence – Paul the psychic Octopus died this week at the age of 2 1/2 http://www.sbnation.com/2010/10/26/1775245/paul-the-octopus-dies-world-cup-psychic-mollusk. I’m not really sure what the average age is for an Octopus of this kind, but my colleague Briana here next to me says it should be “old”. In that case, Paul, just like Fatso the keyboard cat, you died too young.

Moving on, here are some college blogs:

BroBible.com – A site by East coast fratters for the same, which refers to the “Bro” as a positive, energetic force in collegiate and working society. Depending on where you are in the country you might disagree with their characterization of a “Bro” (central to understanding the site’s content), so take the blog with a grain of salt.

CollegeCandy.com – The feminine quasi-response to the BroBible. A little less chauvinistic and bold, but still edgy.

Deadspin.com – The first of the popular sports blogs.  Deadspin ignited a debate a few years ago among the sports journalism establishment and won a lot of support from the up and coming sports fans.

Hypem.com – Where the cool kids go to get their new music. HypeM aggregates content from a number of different blogs in an organized, practical fashion, so you can stream songs all day long!

TMZ – I don’t know much about this site. I think it’s a gossip site. I saw a guy reading it in religion class once.
