If you’re going to buy new clothes this summer, spend that hard earned cash on these items that will make you own any room you walk into. The five biggest trends this summer are:

1. Pastels

Be on the lookout for lighter, summer-y versions of your favorite colors. Lavender is huge this summer; wear it with light neutrals and get ready to watch the compliments roll in.

2. Maxi Skirts And Dresses

This is the easiest way to look stylish this summer. Just put on a maxi skirt or dress and voila! Your outfit’s done—and super cute. These are also great for when you don’t know what to wear, as you can just put them on and leave the house. Pair them with wedges for an especially leg-lengthening look. Rocking the maxi skirt? Try it with a crocheted tank and sandals.

3. Harem Pants

Another easy way to instantly look chic. They’re like fancy sweatpants that, again, only take a second to put on but take your outfit to the next level. Seeing as how they’re both comfortable and fashionable, whoever made these trendy needs to be put in charge of all future trends. Pair with a tucked in tank top and blazer for a hot date-night option.

4. Fringe

Crochet, lace, and pom-pom fringe. This summer, be the most stylish person at the beach and wear high-waisted shorts and a kimono-inspired pullover, fringe included, with some sandals.

5. Overalls

Trust me on this one—these are going to be huge this summer. They’re nostalgic, they’re comfortable, and it feels like you’re back in kindergarten—what’s not to love? Pair with a simple tee and some converse. Extra credit if you finger paint or rollerblade while wearing them.

Warm weather is nearing and as the weather changes, so does fashion! Maxi skirts, high-waisted shorts and crop tops are all the rage for this season. Recycle last year’s style by dressing it up with fun accessories. These accessories are this year’s trends, so instead of purchasing them, you can personalize and make it on your own!

1. Headbands

Flower headbands are all the rage this year! Rather than spending $6-10 for headbands, you can easily make it yourself. All you need is a hot glue gun, a headband, and some fake flowers. All of which you can purchase at a nearby dollar store or a local crafts store! Take out the stems of each flower and glue the flower onto the headband. Voila! You have your very own personalized flower headband. For more detailed instructions, check out Xteeener’s video tutorial:

2. Floral Designs

Floral print is taking over! From dresses, shoes, skirts, tops, and shorts – the floral print design brings life to your old pair of jeans. You can buy floral print fabric at a local crafts store to transform an old pair of shorts (or another item). Using scissors, fabric glue, and some shorts, you can easily create your own floral print shorts. For detailed instructions, check out KrissSuperMiss’s video:

3. High-Waisted Bikinis

Sit poolside in your very own DIY high-waisted swimsuit! All you need is a one piece swimsuit, scissors, a marker, and some fabric glue. Check out PieceofCheapCake’s video for instructions on how to create your own high-waisted swimsuit:

The hottest trends in the make-up world this spring are having a bold lip, glowing bronzed face, and a stained cheek. High-end makeup products can range from $20 upwards to $60 for these products, while drugstore products can range from $5-$15. However, these DIY (do-it-yourself) methods are dirt cheap – perfect for the broke college student! These products are all natural, easy to make, and don’t contain harsh chemicals that are found in store-bought products.

1. Chocolate Bronzer

Bronzer is a never-ending trick that women use to get their skin looking glowing all-year round. Bronzer can be used to add definition to your face by contouring areas to stand out. Using cocoa powder, rubbing alcohol, facial moisturizer, and coconut oil, you can make four different kinds of bronzers. For more info and a video tutorial check out RclBeauty101’s video here:

2. Crayon Lipstick

Bold lips are very in this spring season! Lipsticks can be very costly, ranging from $4-$20 depending on the brands you purchase. Using just coconut oil and Crayons, you can create your own lipsticks. Play around with colors to create that bold spring look that is trending. Check out SofiaStyled’s video tutorial to find out how to make your own Crayon lipstick:

3. Cheek Stains

Cheek stains are the best way to add some color to your face. Using glycerin, food coloring, and some lip moisturizers, you can make a variety of cheek stains. The benefits of cheek stain versus blush are that they stay on your face longer. Which is perfect for the on-the-go student who needs a lasting cheek color.
