One of the best things about the spring semester is the warm weather. And with warm weather comes some awesome college festivals. Many students throughout the country participate in spring festivals and traditions. Here are just a few of some of the festivals going on this time of year. I don’t know about you, but these beat throwing a Frisbee around for the 7th day in a row. Sometimes a change of pace is nice!

UC San Diego – Sun God Festival

The Sun God Festival is an annual campus festival at UCSD that will be taking place on May 18. The concerts begin in the early afternoon and run throughout the evening until midnight with multiple stages that feature DJ performances, a mix of indie/underground/mainstream music groups and a fair. The festival is produced by the Associated Students Concerts & Events office and is paid for by the students with an activity fee. On the day of the Sun God Festival, there is a Junkyard Derby race in which students and faculty can form groups to create downhill racers made from old junkyard parts. Some of the groups in the lineup include Silversun Pickups, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Murs, TOKiMONSTA, and James Davis.

Northwestern University – Dillo Day

Dillo Days is the annual festival at Northwestern University that takes place on the last Sunday of May. The festival was first held in 1972 and is organized by the Mayfest Student group at the Northwestern Lakefill. The contemporary day has its roots in May Day and previous years have featured some extremely well-known artists. The lineup has yet to be revealed for 2012, but in 2010 Nelly, Regina Spektor, and Rhymefest performed and last year, B.o.B, Chiddy Bong, and Kill the Noise made an appearance.

UC Santa Barbara – Floatopia

Floatopia is a social event that has taken place in Santa Barbara annually since 2004 and was created in 2003 by UCSB students Yvonne Foletta and Christina Troutner. Floatopia occurs at the start of spring quarter and participants are primarily college students from around the area and the state of California. In 2009, 12,000 floaters participated in the event. To participate, all one must do is wear water-appropriate clothing and float on rafts and other home-made or store-bought floating devices along the coast and party on the beach.

I’m certainly adding one or two of these onto my bucket list.
