On top of tanning and summer flings, summer should most definitely be spent on internships. BookRenter recently partnered with InternMatch.com to create a Facebook app to offer students summer internships and extra resources on how to prepare, find, and apply for internships.

I absolutely love internships. As a student who’s held multiple summer internships and internships throughout the school year, words cannot describe how valuable that experience is. Internships keep you busy and set yourself apart from others.
Places like InternMatch help students find their focus – whether their passion resides in journalism, biology, art, or theatre. It’s budget friendly too – InternMatch is free for students. Students are able to save positions, get updates on various internships, and contact certain employers at no cost.

If you’re interested in things like fashion, maybe check out an internship at a fashion publication. For students who are interested in public policy and government, look for internship opportunities for state leaders and political organizations.
Internships don’t always have to deal with commuting either. If it’s difficult for you to relocate, there are many telecommute and virtual internships available on InternMatch. InternMatch is a great resource to locate and secure virtual internships, some of which are a lot similar to the internships offered at BookRenter.

Here at BookRenter, there are many opportunities for students to thrive. Currently listed are two internships: a video production internship and a merchandising internship. Go apply!

Make your summer fun, all while networking and gaining career experience.

Good Luck!

Study breaks keep the gray matter in your head fresh after long periods of thinking. So when you’re feeling the mental burn, take five and be ready to cram even more knowledge into that noggin.

5 Years. $200,000,000 Saved.

That’s right, it’s our birthday!

Five years ago, a 28-year-old guy named Colin Barceloux took the rather disruptive idea that he’d come up with as a student mailman at Santa Clara University and launched the very first online textbook rental site. He picked the exceptionally straightforward name of BookRenter, bought the URL, and brought Tikiman here on board to be his mascot and ever-present student advocate. Not one to pass up a golden opportunity to save a buck…or $1,000, students started renting their textbooks in droves.

The next four years flew by, and while it’s been a whirlwind, we never lost our focus on the relentless pursuit of helping students save money so they can better afford college. Just last month, we were thrilled to announce that in the five years since Colin started BookRenter, we have saved students a whopping $200,000,000.

We want to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for renting with us as we quickly re-cap these first five years.

#summerjob

summer job

Working for a living. Sometimes it really gets in the way of just living (jk). Unless you’re doing something you love. How does your summer employment coincide with your passion? Does it at all, or does it surface a means for you to save up for college? What are some intriguing things that your job has exposed you to?

Snap a photo of you or your friends and family out and in action, Instagram it with the hashtags #BookRenter#DreamBig and #summerjob and you could be one of four winners of a $25 Visa gift card every week. It’s that simple.

Subject inspiration: internships in the big city, lifeguard, volunteer, photographer, animal rescuer, working at the banana stand (because there’s always money in the banana stand.).

To read more about how to enter our contest, see our previous blog post, and don’t forget to read our Terms and Conditions.

Congrats to @lovelyrenee1990, @thisbenikkit and @xmagsterx, winners of last week’s #myadventure theme:

Everyone Loves a Sing-a-Long – Now in Study Flavor!

Making the perfect playlist for any situation is an art, and a playlist to study by is no exception. However, there are all kinds of conflicting data and studies out there telling us what the best kind of music is to improve focus, productivity, and retention. With all of that in mind, we’re testing our own theory; we built a playlist on Spotify of instrumental versions of popular modern songs that are either playing on the radio as we speak or you heard (read: sang) them at karaoke last weekend. No pesky lyrics will distract you when you’re in the zone, but the minute your mind starts to wander, you might really appreciate having a sing-a-long for a line or two.

Picture this: there you are, toiling away, studying for the GRE or the LSAT or the MCAT or…etc. Your mind starts to wander when all of a sudden…BOOM! You realize Sweet Home Alabama is playing in your ears. You start to sing along just to clear your mind for a moment, and then you’re ready to get back to the grind.

Give our list a listen here on Spotify and tell us if our theory worked for you!
