After reading over 25,000 entries, we’re excited to finally announce the winner of the Rock the World scholarship competition and extend our congratulations to our winner.
Congratulation to Kyle Spaulding from Stephen F. Austin State University!
Thank you so much to all who took the time to enter the competition. It was difficult to pick just one winner when all of you have such inspiring stories and dreams. We hope to offer more opportunities like Rock the World in the future to continue helping college students succeed.
Now let’s meet Kyle Spaulding!
Using my education in:
Geology to find new and innovative ways of utilizing existing hydrocarbon resources through environmentally safe methods. Also, using my education to find other economically viable resources.
I will make an impact in the world by:
Providing an alternative to society’s crude-oil based infrastructure by helping to influence the development of natural gas conversion technologies and methods of bio-remediation of waste to produce harvestable fuel sources.
My passion for this comes from:
Prior military experience and an overall love for the planet earth. Additionally, I feel that education should be a tool used to contribute to society in its entirety and not solely as a selfish means of financial gain!
Because I have been so:
adamant about contributing to the global community and empathetic towards our needs as a race,
I hope you’ll grant me this scholarship.
The dream that won us over: Kyle hopes to develop natural technology for the bio-remediation of waste to produce fuel sources. We asked Kyle to break the science down for us: Waste, meet natural bacteria and organisms. Bacteria, please break waste down into manageable products. (It’s almost as simple as that.) We’re all in favor of helping clean up the environment, and his determination to drive the current system in an environmentally-friendly direction spoke to us.
Through serving our country as a Marine, he realized how important it was to offer something back. “In return, the self-satisfaction and benefits one gets for providing a means to better the global community is payment in itself,” Kyle says.
We are proud to support a dedicated student who strives to make a difference in the world and one day make Earth a little bit greener.
Go rock the world, Kyle!
