There’s more to summertime fitness than looking good in a swimsuit. Increasing temperatures mean more opportunities to work out, more ways to mix up your routine, and more reasons to eat popsicles after breaking a sweat. Check out the following ways you can mix up your routine for summer to maximize your fitness:

1. Change Your Workout Time

Avoid the hottest parts of the day by working out closer to when the sun is either rising or setting. It’ll be cooler than noon when the sun is directly overhead. Also, waking up early and working out gives your entire day a boost of endorphins and energy. A new workout time is also a great way to add excitement to your typical routine.

2. Enjoy The Season

Take advantage of all of the opportunities that are best enjoyed when it’s hot outside: see if your community pool offers water aerobics, take surf lessons, or explore your neighborhood by foot. There are a surprising number of ways to be active outside.

3. Air Conditioning

If you are not a member already, join a gym. You can enjoy getting your fitness on inside nice air conditioning. Some treadmills even have a built-in fan.

4. Interval Training

If the gym isn’t your thing, try interval training instead. Short, but intense, workouts that raise your metabolism and burn calories without the additional time in the sun.

5. New Workout Clothes

Just starting a new workout routine and need a little motivation? My favorite (but least cost effective) way of getting inspired to hit the gym is buying new workout clothes. There’s no better way to show off your new workout sneaks than to wear them, and once you’re wearing them, you’ll want to work out! It’s foolproof motivation. Mostly.
