Just because it’s summer, that doesn’t mean we all always have plans. Sometimes work can consume our lives, or we don’t always have enough money, or we may even just prefer to have a lazy day and have a day or two without any plans. Even still, seize the rest of this summer to be productive, learn something new, or even just have a little bit of fun. Don’t be boring – try something different!

1. Go To The Park

Remember when going to the park and playing on the playground was the highlight of your day? Reign in some of that childhood nostalgia and bring a book, a journal, or even just your iPhone stocked with new music. Pick a comfy bench and zone out. Parks are also great places for people-watching and scenery gazing, so it doesn’t hurt to have a camera handy either!

2. Go For A Drive / Walk

Grab your car keys or the dog and head over to a place you’ve been curious about exploring. It’s always been my way of really seeing my neighborhood, and who knows, you might discover a new hangout.

3. Be A Mentor

Take any free time you might have and devote it to helping a youth in need. Programs like Big Brothers, Big Sisters are a great way to get involved to help give someone guidance or to just have some fun.

4. Hone Your Craft

If you have yet to find your dream job, devote some time each day to try something that will enhance what you studied, or are currently studying, in college. If you’re a photography or art major, make a blog critiquing pieces. If you majored in advertising, pick out ads or campaigns that caught your eye. The point is to show potential employers or passersby that you know your stuff. You never know where it will lead to!

5. DIY Crafts

Investing a few dollars at your local craft store for some projects can lead to big improvements in your living area – or create something for a friend or family member. If you’re looking for ideas, try this masking tape art, or this decorative canvas art.

If all else fails, you can always pick up a book that’s been on your list for a while, check out a movie at the theater downtown, or go sit by the lake with a magazine and work on your tan!

There is never a shortage of things to do – you just have to get creative!
