So get out and socialize! Especially with your happiest friends. For each happy friend you have, you have a 9% increased chance of being happy yourself.
2. Be Kind To Others
Performing small acts of kindness for others can lead to an increase in life satisfaction after just 10 days. So buy a cup of coffee for the person behind you, buy someone flowers without a reason, or do whatever you can think of!
3. Go For A Run
It only takes 20 minutes of working out for your brain to begin producing endorphins, which are the “happy chemicals” that create the euphoric post-workout high. In that same 20 minutes, your body releases a protein which protects you from stress as well as emotional disorders, such as depression.
4. Try Something New
People who take part in a wide range of activities are more likely to retain positive emotions and minimize negative ones than people who said “no” to that weekend rock-climbing class.
5. Say Thank You
Dr. Robert Emmons, Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Positive Psychology, says that practicing gratitude can increase happiness levels by 25%. Writing in a gratitude journal for a few hours over three weeks can increase happiness and keep it at a higher level for six or more months.
