Baby, it’s cold outside! Winter weather has swept much of the nation in the past few weeks. With frigid temperatures, snow, cold rain, and sleet – venturing any further than your bed may seem like a task.

Here a few fun ideas to help you and maybe even your roommate(s) pass some time away:

1. Card Games

Speed, Spit, and maybe even Go Fish are great card games to play. If you want to make it a little more entertaining, invite your floormates to a tournament. Prize for the winner of the tournament is semester-long bragging rights.

2. Movie Marathon

This is a great time to get to know your floormates! Ask everyone to pick his or her favorite movie and have a movie marathon! Getting to know each other’s taste in movies is a fantastic way to build some common ground between you and your floormates … and kill some time!

3. Read

It’s an old-school way to pass the time! Plus, there are some really great books that will soon be turned into movies, like The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green. Check them out before they head to the big screen.

4. Start Blogging

You have thoughts and opinions, so why not share them? There are several hosting sites that you can choose from: WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr, and many others! Write about things that inspire you, things you’re interested in, or even your favorite sports team. If you are trapped inside, blogging can take up tons of time just to jot down things you’re thinking about.

3 Ways To De-Stress

Darlene Megino Blogger Biography

Feeling stressed out from school, mid-terms, or life? Don’t allow stress to takeover and overwhelm you! Here’s a few ways that you can unwind, relax, and de-stress.

1. Unplug From The World

One way to de-stress is to cut out all electronics. Shut yourself off from the world by unplugging yourself from technology! For one whole day (or at least for a half day), allow yourself to relax and enjoy the day without the nuisance of texting, emailing, or the internet. You’ll feel more refreshed and much more relaxed after you’ve spent a day to yourself. Distract yourself from all these electronics by reading a good book, playing an instrument, or painting! If you can, go on a mini-getaway by going on a bike ride or maybe even a hike!

2. Kick It Out

Sometimes when we have all this pent-up stress, we need to have a way to get it all out. I personally like to get active when I’m stressed out. Going for a walk, run, or hiking a trail is one of the many ways I release my stress. One of my favorite ways to relieve stress is kicking and punching all that stress out. Most school gyms have punching bags, so wrap up your hands and get to punching! You’ll feel much more relaxed and you’ll have a blast doing it! Not to mention that wonderful work out bonus!

3. Spa Day

Have yourself a little spa day and don’t let anyone disturb you! If you’re on a budget and can’t go to the day spas in your local area, then check out YouTube videos for some awesome DIY spa tricks. There are tons of DIY facemasks that you can find on YouTube. Here’s one of my personal favorites that is super easy and will make you feel completely refreshed:

A romantic comedy starring Zac Efron as one part of a trio of best friends who make a pact to maintain single status after one of them ends up heartbroken by a recent breakup.

A “modern reimagining” of the 1986 classic rom-com. This version follows the new love for two couples as they progress in their relationships, starring Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, and Michael Ealy.

4. Endless Love

Pet Care: Finding Time As A College Student

Bailey Buckingham Blogger Biography

A lot of people get their first pets when they go to college or a little bit after. I started with a cat, and then added another, and now I have a dog! I also have a full time job, an internship, and school. Needless to say, I’ve had to come up with some ways to not only keep my grades and work ethic up, but also how to be a good parent to my fur babies!

1. Put Them First

I used to go out on weekend getaways, stay at friends’ houses, not come home for hours all day, and now I can’t do any of those things without a solid plan. If I’m not going to be home all night, I either spend the money to board my animals to know they are safe, or I get a trusting friend to go feed them and play with them! If you get someone, make sure they play with your animals. As much as they need food and water, they also need love!

2. Make An Effort

There are days of the week that I work eight hours, go straight to school, and then have meetings. I could easily just go home and be lazy, but I make myself take my dog on a walk for at least fifteen minutes. I chose to have this animal, so the least I can do is give him a short walk at the end of the night! Plus it is a bonus exercise for me too! With my cats, I bring out their toys, and while I’m watching TV, I just play around with them! This actually is a great way to de-stress!

3. Save Money For Your Animals

It makes me so sad when I see people get a pet when they don’t have the money to truly care for them! I’m not saying you have to lavish your pets with diamond collars and fluffy beds. But, you do need to have the money to buy good food, grooming, boarding (if needed), and vet visits! I only get my dog groomed every few months so I’m not crazy about it, but with him being long haired I know that it’s necessary!

Take care of your pets, even if you are a super busy college student! If you don’t have time to take care of them, then please give them to someone who does because they deserve it. Not only will taking care of them make them happy, but it will make your relationship with them so much stronger, which is why we get pets in the first place!

7 Reasons Why Cats Are The Best Valentines

Who says you need a date this Valentine’s Day? The best date you could have is your cat!

No, seriously! Here’s why:

1. They’re Soft

Sure, boyfriends can grow beards. But those are scratchy. Cats are much softer and less apt to complain about hands on their face.

2. You Don’t Have To Share Your Chocolate

No need to grudgingly offer a spoon of Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked to the significant other. You can eat the whole carton by yourself (without another person there to judge you). And your cat won’t say one word.

3. They Won’t Get Jealous

They won’t mind if you want to go out with your friends on Valentine’s Day. In fact, they’ll probably enjoy the chance to catch up on their kitty beauty sleep.

4. There’s No Awkward Moment

At the end of the night, you won’t have to decide who pays the bill. Um, but don’t bring your cat to a restaurant… that could get really awkward, really fast.

5. You Can Stay In

In fact, you don’t have to go out at all. Cats are more than fine staying at home and watching movies all night.

6. No Dressing Up

They don’t care what you look like. Sure, every well-meaning boyfriend tells us we look better in “sweat pants, chillin’ with no makeup on” (or maybe that’s just Drake), but cats? They really don’t care.

7. Tons Of Cuddles

They are always there to cuddle at the end of the day and offer a supportive purr to all of your troubles.

So… what’s not to love? Cuddle up to your cat this Valentine’s Day. They are much better dates.

Dogs will suffice too! ;)
