A night as big as New Year’s Eve deserves a celebration just as big! If you are stuck on how to celebrate the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, check out these suggestions:
1. House Party
Get a bunch of friends together for a New Year’s Eve party! Whether it be at your place or someone else’s, have everyone bring a dessert, dinner dish, or drink, and dress up! You can rent a couple movies or dance to the year’s hits until the ball drops!
2. Bar Gathering
Campuses always have bars open New Year’s Eve. Call up a few in your area, ask what celebrations are going on, and head over with a few of your friends! Usually bars offer live music, contests, karaoke, and other fun deals to pass the time until the countdown.
3. Beach Bonfire
Close to the water? You can maybe pool your money together with some friends and rent a beach house for the night’s celebrations or you can build a bonfire on the shore! Have a small barbecue, make s’mores, and discuss your favorite moments of the year and your New Year resolutions.
4. Hike Your Favorite Mountain
Grab your significant other or friends and bring a picnic with sparkling cider for a midnight view of the city’s celebrations. Chances are you’ll see fireworks from somewhere over the city, but even if you don’t, the view of the stars above will add to a night you won’t forget. Just don’t forget the flashlight!
If you do stay in your dorm, visit home, or are at a friend’s house, add games to your celebrations! This guessing game idea from Real Simple is one of my favorite ideas – print and cut out the cards, have each person fill them out, then take turns guessing who wrote what. Another great game is Quelf, which I guarantee will have you laughing nonstop. Or, have all your friends bring their favorite game and take turns!
No matter how you celebrate, make sure champagne or sparkling cider is present! It just wouldn’t be a New Year’s Eve celebration without the bubbly!
What do you like to do New Year’s Eve?
Happy New Year!
