No doubt about it, Americans love their coffee in the morning! But which do people really prefer? Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, or Peet’s is the real question around our office. Over 100 million people drink coffee everyday so we want to know if people would really know the difference in their coffee of choice. We decided to take it upon ourselves to do a taste test for our employees to see if there is really a difference in taste and quality.
We set up a nifty stand with 3 different coffee pots to choose from. Our employees had no idea which coffee brand they were drinking but they voted on the one they enjoyed the most.
And the winner……STARBUCKS!
Runner up was Peet’s and last but not least was Dunkin’ Donuts. All tallies were very close, a point separating each one.
Some of our staff was surprised they didn’t choose their favorite coffee which makes me think, can people really tell the difference in their coffee they drink? With all the choices in coffee creamer flavors and sweeteners I’m not sure how one could tell the difference.
So what do people really enjoy about the delicious taste of coffee? And do they really know the difference in their particular brew of choice? I guess we can ask our staff once they stop shaking from their caffeine high.
I have to say… Starbuck’s is awesome, but how can you beat the price of DD?!

yes you can tell the difference in black coffee. My favorite Coffee out of those 3 is starbucks.
I personally put so much stuff in it that by the time I”m done with it , it tastes like whatever creamer I put in it lol.
There’s a definet difference in coffees, some are stronger, some are bitter. If your a coffee drinker you know the difference!

Love starbucks coffee, especially when I am out and about. For home we buy the dunkin donuts bags of coffee

Personally, I like Joe Muggs! They are located in many Books-A-Million and offer WiFi free. They are also a quiet place to work if you are doing research or writing papers.

I can tell the difference between all 3. I love, love Starbucks and DD is a close second. If DD made chai latte—they would be tied with Starbucks!

! Their flavor seems to have a stronger kick and the aroma is wonderful – even in the bag!!!
Am I the only one that isn’t that fond of Starbucks. Really, I mean, everthing there is ok, I guess, but I don’t drink coffee. I have tried teas, fraps, and caps from there, but haven’t found anything that I like better than Panera or a Speedway. lol
I prefer to brew my own at home. That way, it prevents the needless waste associated with disposable coffee cups, and I can know exactly where my beans are coming from (I buy organic, fair-trade certified). Plus, I can use the grounds as compost. However, as far as Pete’s, Starbucks, and Dunkin Donuts is concerned, I enjoy the organic Seattle’s Best, which is owned by Starbuck’s, so I guess they get my vote!
I think Starbuck’s is the best! I also think that it’s fairly easy to tell the difference in coffees even with sweeteners and creamers.
Great taste test! I would of picked the Starbucks too. That’s the only coffee my family drinks!
I’ve never been much of a coffee fanatic, and maybe that’s why I can never tell the difference between Starbucks, Pete’s, DD, or even home. I usually put other things (like creme, flavors, frappachino it…) to make it sweeter. My boyfriend says that there is definitely a difference though – Starbucks is usually lighter than Pete’s. So I guess more people prefer it not as “dark”, in a sense?
I believe wholeheartedly that people can tell the difference. I have had people argue with me telling me I can’t tell the difference in bottled water and I most certainly can. My grandmother used to try and pass off cheap ravioli on me and I could always tell when it wasn’t the Chef. Lol.
I love flavored coffee, so, Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Spice is my favorite.
There’s a Dunkin Donuts everywhere I turn, so therefore, Diane runs on Dunkin.
I have to say Starbucks by default, because I’ve never tried the other two!
I make mine own at home but when I go out for one I go starbucks. I love their Pumpkin spice lattes, Peppermint Mochas and everything else lol
Have to admit that I would choose Dunkin’ Donuts…but only because their donuts are the best accompaniment!
So happy you went with Starbucks! I love buying my coffee beans there (and also enjoying a frappuccino), plus, we don’t have Pete’s here.

I love them both! I always get Iced Dark Roast Coffe form DD because I love strong coffee, and as e3veryone knows, Starbucks has really strong coffee. If you just get coffee from Starbucks and nothing fancy, it isn’t that expensive. If I had to pick only one, I’d choose Dunkin Donuts!
I love Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donut’s coffee. I like Starbucks more, they just have more flavor to them.
I agree, Starbucks coffee is the best but sometimes you have to give away the best and get what you can afford such as DD

Starbucks is the best ! I have had all three and the different kinds of coffees you can get at starbucks cannot be beat!
If the same creamer and sugar, and the same applies to the amount in the coffee I believe someone could tell the difference. If starbucks was chosen as the best, or the person treats themselves, starbucks is seen as a reward and seen as all that much better. Sometimes you do have to go with affordable or look for ways to save on your fav. Caffeine fix.

Not mentioned in the blog post was that the Dunkin Donuts coffee was DD Turbo, and wheww, that is some strong stuff! Totally led me astray from my favorite bean when it came to the vote, grr.

I can go without coffee almost everyday, UNLESS I have a donut. which is often =) I love to just dip the donut in the coffee, there is NOTHING better. So it’s really the coffee alone.. it’s the coffee and donuts together that make me buy coffee! =p
